OOCYTE DONATION
Oocyte donation, also known as egg donation, is the process by which a woman
donates her eggs to be used by another woman or a couple who are unable to
conceive a child on their own. Egg donation is typically done through a fertility clinic or an egg donor agency.
The process of oocyte donation typically involves the following steps:
1. Donor screening: The potential egg donor undergoes a series of tests and
interviews to assess her overall health and suitability as a donor. This may
include a physical exam, blood tests to screen for infectious diseases, and
genetic testing to identify any inherited conditions.
2. Ovarian stimulation: The donor is given fertility drugs to stimulate the ovaries
to produce multiple eggs. During this process, the donor is monitored by the
clinic or agency to ensure that the medication is working properly and to
detect any potential side effects.
3. Egg retrieval: When the eggs are mature, they are retrieved from the donor
ovaries using a minimally invasive surgical procedure called transvaginal
ultrasound-guided egg retrieval. The procedure usually takes about 20-30
minutes and is performed under sedation.
4. Fertilization and transfer: The eggs are fertilized with sperm from the intended
father or a sperm donor in a laboratory. The resulting embryos are then
transferred to the uterus of the recipient woman. The transfer may be done
through artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Ovulation induction is a medical treatment that helps women who have difficulty getting pregnant by stimulating their ovaries to release eggs. This is done through the use of medication such as oral pills or injections that contain hormones like
follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) or luteinizing hormone (LH). These hormones
help to regulate the menstrual cycle and promote the growth and maturation of
follicles in the ovaries, which contain eggs.
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment where sperm is inserted directly into a woman's uterus around the time of ovulation. The semen is collected from the husband and processed in our lab to remove the damaged and immotile sperms and only the rapidly motile healthy sperms are injected into the lady for better results.IUI is done with the help of a fine catheter that is inserted into the cervix without any anaesthesia.
