SPERM DONATION
Sperm donation is the process by which a man donates his sperm to be used by a woman or a couple who are unable to conceive a child on their own. Sperm donation is usually done through a sperm bank, which collects, freezes, and stores sperm samples for later use.
The process of sperm donation typically involves several steps:
1. Initial screening: The potential sperm donor undergoes a series of tests and
interviews to assess his overall health and suitability as a donor. This may
include a physical exam, blood tests to screen for infectious diseases, and
genetic testing to identify any inherited conditions.
2. Semen analysis: The potential donor provides a semen sample, which is
analyzed to assess the quality and quantity of his sperm.
3. Freezing and storage: If the donor is deemed suitable, his sperm is frozen and
stored in a sperm bank for future use.
4. Selection and insemination: When a woman or a couple chooses to use donor
sperm, they select a donor from the sperm bank's database and arrange for
the sperm to be thawed and prepared for insemination. This can be done
through artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Its important to note that sperm donation is regulated by various laws and
guidelines, and both donors and recipients should be aware of the legal and ethical implications of sperm
Usually single or double iui is performed based on the nature of the problem. The patient is made to lie down for 15-20 minutes after the IUI and normal physical
activities can be resumed after the IUI.
This can improve the chances of fertilization and pregnancy by bringing the sperm closer to the egg at the fallopian tubes where they can chemically communicate.Upto 3-6 IUI’s can be tried by the couple based on the reserve, tubal status, sperm quality.
Ovulation induction and IUI are often used together as a fertility treatment. In this case, the woman is given medication to stimulate the growth of follicles in the ovaries, and then the IUI procedure is performed around the time of ovulation to increase the chances of the sperm fertilizing the egg.
Ovarian reserve testing is a medical evaluation that helps determine a woman's fertility potential. This testing involves assessing the quantity of a woman's remaining eggs in her ovaries.
There are several methods used for ovarian reserve testing, including blood tests that measure hormone levels such as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and anti mullerian hormone (AMH). These hormones are used as markers of ovarian function and can help predict the number of remaining eggs a woman has AMH has been
accurate in measuring the ovarian reserve with good reproducibility.
AFC-Antral follicle count is an important method for ovarian reserve testing. Here
ultrasound is used , which can measure the size and number of follicles in the
ovaries. This test is done between 2-5 days of the menstrual cycle and is one of the most accurate methods to test the ovarian reserve.
